Two-up pairing Rob Jones and John Aspell set a new course record on their way to victory at the Port Talbot Wheelers 13-mile event near Glynneath, while in the solo event Emma Davies and Peter Lindfield were victorious.

Jones (Merthyr CC) and Aspell (Port Talbot Wheelers) clocked 31-10 to slice 2-48 from the old mark for the R13/s course, which is a sporting course in the Neath Valley and featured a headwind on the outward leg and tailwind back, with dry conditions but a bit chilly.

Davies (Port Talbot Wheelers) covered the course in 36-24 to come within seven seconds of lowering her own women’s course record.

Lindfield (Velotik Racing Team) proved quickest overall in 30-46, but although impressive that time wasn’t enough to challenge the men’s course record of 29-24 held by Ross Hamilton and set in this event last year.

Lindfield’s time was 30 seconds better than runner-up Graham Rogerson (Port Talbot Wheelers) while third spot went to youth rider Josh Palmer (VMCC powered by Y Beic) with 33-58.

The road bike category was well contested and won by Ross Walton (The Tridents) in 34-03 which gave him the win from his team-mate Jon Webb by 1-31, with Mike Hall (Port Talbot Wheelers) third fastest on a road bike in 35-58.

The best veteran on standard was Rogerson with a plus of 4-07, while Lindfield was second in that category.

While Jones and Aspell were quickest two-up as a composite team, the prize for fastest club team on time trial bikes went to the Port Talbot Wheelers pairing of Martin Edwards and Dave Abbott whose time of 33-47 on road bikes was good enough for second fastest two-up of the day.

Claire Thomas teamed up with Tenby Aces CC club-mate David Poole to finish as fastest team with a female in 40-23. Best club team on road bikes were the Port Talbot Wheelers Heath Williams and Hugh Pascoe in 33-47.
